This tour takes you from Volendam through the low-lying peat meadow area of Waterland and its picturesque villages. You pass Edam and Purmerend and via Monnickendam where you have a beautiful view of the Gouwzee and Markermeer. You start the route at the Dijk in Volendam, the village that is internationally renowned. The regional dress often represents the national dress. When you take a break on the terrace, you will probably see someone in traditional clothing. You cycle through the low-lying peat meadow area of Waterland, and in Edam you cycle past merchant houses from a bygone era. Here you can still see the boats passing through one of the oldest bridges on the terrace of "De Fortuna", manually operated by the harbor master. On the dike you can visit the Cheese factory where they give a demonstration of cheese making and where you can taste cheese, and let's be honest, do you know how cheese is made?
