The Waterland route leads you from Volendam through the low-lying peat meadow area of Waterland and its picturesque villages, and via Monnickendam you have beautiful views of the Gouwzee and the Markermeer at Restaurant de Zeilhoek.  The route Along the IJsselmeer you cycle through Edam to the IJsselmeer, where you can see how our dykes are being strengthenedAt the third route you will see it all. You start the route at De Dijk in Volendam, the village with an international reputation. It often represents the national costume. If you take a break on the terrace, you are bound to see someone else in traditional dress. You will cycle through the low-lying peat meadow area of Waterland, and in Edam you will pass merchant houses from days gone by. Here, on the terrace of 'De Fortuna', you can still see the boats passing through one of the oldest bridges, manually operated by the harbour master.
